phpBB is the most commenly used free discussion board on the web atm. It is highly customizable and so simple that a basic user could install with a little bit of help here and there.

You can aquire phpBB from there website (oddly enough...)
www.phpbb.com

I mentioned they were highly customizable didn't I. Well if you don't know a think about php nor do you intend to start learning. But you want more features, go to phpbb hacks.com wich is a site full of useful addon's to get your online community boombing.
www.phpbbhacks.com

Another great site for phpBB addon's is Smarters site. Which can be found at
http://smartor.is-root.com/

If you do not as of yet have a webhost. Then you can get free remotly hosted phpBB from
www.dk3.com
however: you loose your customization. You can't add other styles or hacks. and the bandwidth is poor. so this would only be for small personal sites.

Invision boards.

I know little of these boards. Only of there existance and there really anoying admin cp. They are good for webhots that don't offer php/mySQL support because you can aquire free ones already hosted at
http://invisionfree.com/
note: Free ones arn't very customizable at all. I wouldn't recomend these boards for complete beginners, coz to be honest. there a pain in the ass.

(note to admins: "You cannot make another post so soon after your last; please try again in a short while." I'm all for that and everything to stop spammers. But my computer clock counted 10mins before i could post/edit post again. Isn't that a little extatic?)

EzBoard

Now were into the demons layer. I have never used such a lousie discussion board in all my life. Its for lack of a better work Horriable.
Much like invision they are already freely hosted. The Admin CP pannel is just confuseing. Hardly any customization. Its just so very poor. But none the less i'll give you a link to this adomnation of the internet
http://www.ezboard.com
These boards are horriable and i recommend you stay away from them. (Can't half tell the jurked me around in the past)

Ultraboard
http://www.homepagetools.com/ultraboard/

Another free remoted hosted board.
note: When you get your own host with mySQL and FTP i'd really suggest going with phpBB because feely remoted most times are either packed with adds or low bandwith. or both 0.0

I can't tell you much about this host due to i haven't used it in a long long while and the demo function of the board is a dead link. But i can tell you it was handy for the time i used it.
(Arlek community moves from host to host until i find perfect free one, which i believe i found here, and i'm trying to get to 200 as freely and less anoyingly as possiable.)
I remember it had a farly easy to use admin CP and the boards looked farley deacent. A very good one for beginner sites and discussion board admins.

MyBB
http://mybboard.com

Much like phpBB really. If you didn't choose phpBB this would be the next choice.
This isn't remotely hosted. Same deal as phpBB, download, unzip and upload (vaia FTP) into your sites domain. The board itself looks preatty strait forward really. Theres nothing much to tell. It dosen't seem as customizable as phpBB but it does have its own nifly little features. But i'll leave that for you to discover. Coz i'm tired and i've reached my quota for the day.

I'll say this though. There smilys arn't as impressive as phpBB
compare Very Happy with

phpBB and Invison Board are the two most widely used boards around and i have used both phpBB and Invision Board on my sites before... and i can definitely say that invision is better as it has a lot of options which phpBB dosent have so far. the admin CP is a bit confusing, but only when u are starting off... once u get used to it, its really very easy.... and apart from that there a laregr no of skins available for the IB

Invision Board has more futures then phpBB, but a full modded phpBB is better then an Invision Board.

*Only Download MOD's from www.phpBB.com (and www.phpbbhacks.com)*

If you happen to have a webhost wwith globalweb or with your own host and would like me to setup up an IPB board for you, I'd be happy to for a small fee. I found it quite simply to manage and you might be able to set it up yourself.

No thankyou i can set up my own forums. I prefure fully costomized phpBB. and once i score 50 posts i'll be able to achieave that. decided to go the discussion board way and give as much info as i can scrape up on them. Also if i run outta ideas or i just start saying pointless stuff i'll move off them.

well it will seem absurd for anyone to pay a fee to get an IB installed on his site. it comes with an automatic installation and anyone who can euna website will know how to install such an easy thing as that....

"With great power comes great oppourtunity to exploite that power" - thats why i make a horriable admin for communitys lol.
(don't know why i said that, in strange mood)

Yeah if i was willing to pay for it, i'd go find a reasonably pay host. But i'm only 15 and un employed. So i'm going with the best free host i can find, Even if it takes me a month to acheave its standereds lol
