I remember the GIMP (the Gnu Image Manipulation Program) being a good and free graphics software compareable to Photoshop. It can be found at http://www.gimp.org or the Windows version at http://www.gimp.org/win32/.
Features:
- layers and transparency
- advanced brush effects, including image tubes
- graphics tablet compliant
- many default filters and great effects
- script-fu, a filter programming language
- ...and many more. Go check it out.
Oh, and for all you 3D enthusiasts out there:
There is a freeware 3D package called OpenFX (http://www.openfx.org/) that can do what 3DS Max or Maya or Cinema4D do, and you don't have to pay several hundred Euros for it.
And if you ever wanted to create some nice-looking 3D landscapes, go check out Terragen on http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/. |

PovRay is also an excellent 3D raytracer engine... Unfortuantly, you have to write your own code for it to process, so it's not exactly a visual tool like some others are, but I've gotten really great results from it! _________________ Ike |
